To preserve the pristine beauty of your furniture for many years, you need to give each piece proper care instead of just constantly dusting it. The lifespan and condition of your furniture directly depend on the attention and effort you provide.
You can care for furniture in various ways. Although traditional remedies have worked for centuries, you still need household cleaning products to effectively tackle everyday dirt and grime. Below, we explain how to use different compositions and tools correctly to maintain your furniture.
How to take care of wooden furniture?
When caring for wood and rattan garden furniture, you must protect it from damage caused by parasites.
This is the worst category, as wooden items respond poorly to both dry and highly humid air. They do not like direct sun, therefore, furniture made of wood is not placed close to the balcony door and often opens the windows. You can’t turn it on and off the radiator.
To protect the evaporated surface from damage from the sun, a protective wax layer that absorbs ultraviolet will help. If you are not too lazy to polish the varnish well, it will give a beautiful shine to the furniture.
In rooms with dryness of the air, an aquarium or a simple vase filled with water will help with the task of moistening it.
When caring for such furniture, you must protect it from damage by parasites. To do this, rub the lower parts with turpentine at the start of summer.
Furniture should stand flat on the floor. Deformations are fraught with deformation of the forms, breakage of parts, a jumble of loops.
Arrange the furniture so that doors do not hit it when opened. If this is unavoidable, use special buffers, which are available from furniture stores and handmade suppliers in various designs.
Removing furniture from dust will help polishing cloth.
You can refresh the appearance of varnished surfaces using vegetable oil. Experts recommend burdock oil. To apply it, make a tampon by wrapping a cotton ball moistened with oil in a piece of flannel, then carefully rub the furniture with it.
Cigarette stains: Sprinkle the stain with cigarette ash, then polish with burnt cork. Wipe the treated area with a damp cloth, followed by a dry cloth.
Marks from hot cups, plates, or glasses: Use a regular eraser to remove these marks, erasing them as you would pencil lines.
Water spots: Cover the spot with flour, then remove it using a sieve, or rub gently with vegetable oil. Alternatively, you can rub the spot with a walnut kernel. After treatment, allow the area to dry, then polish over the varnish with a cloth.
Scratches on expensive oak, walnut, and rattan corner sofa sets are easily made unnoticeable with the help of a weak iodine solution.
Thus return the colored furniture to the former whiteness. After washing, it is worth wiping it with the following composition:
1. Teeth Powder.
2. Water.
3. Linen Blues.
Gently dust matte surfaces with a soft, dry cloth. For heavily soiled areas, wash them with warm, soapy water and then wipe thoroughly with a dry rag. Avoid polishing these surfaces, as it leaves greasy spots that are difficult to remove.
The metal components of furniture are cared for by the following mixture:
1. 30 g of ammonia.
2. 15 grams of tooth powder, diluted in a quarter cup of water to a mushy state.
Dunked with a suspension of flannel, wipe down dark and tarnished items, after which clean surfaces are scraped with a cloth. In the absence of tooth powder, you can use a mixture of soda and lemon juice or a slice of onion.
With such trouble, the reduction of the back of the veneer, as well as when bubbles appear, uses an iron. The warped places are lubricated with a not-too-hot singlet through the folded paper.
Sometimes it becomes necessary to pre-pierce or rotate the inflamed area. Making a puncture causes no issues, but an incision should follow the direction of the wood fibers. It is necessary to introduce a slightly viscous composition into the resulting hole and then try to iron the bubble again.
