Vata

Pitta

According to Ayurveda depression is caused by an overwhelming presence of Kapha which causes the electrochemistry of the brain out of equilibrium (i.e. Vata) and causes a dramatic reduction in the activity of enzymes in the metabolism of the body (i.e, Pitta). The body, having observed this abrupt imbalance of Vata and Pitta is forced to go into repair mode, activating an excessive amount of Kapha.
