RIGHT SKI ACCOMMODATION

10 TIPS ON HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SKI ACCOMMODATION

The ski holiday is one of the most beautiful and exciting holidays. However, this is probably one of the most expensive trips possible and one that also requires a lot of planning. If this is your first time, you will find that the first big decision is to book the best ski area for you and your family. Over the years I have visited countless apartments, including hostels, 5-star chalets and breakfasts, trying to figure out what to look for to make children feel good. I’ve put together a list of things to keep in mind, as well as some practical and useful skiing tips:

# 01 – PROMOTION Really

Ski resorts are usually booked in advance, so plan and book ahead. Some families return to the mountains year after year and usually anticipate 1 to 2 seasons. Leaving it at the last minute can leave you with the most expensive or practical decisions depending on your location and preferences.

# 02 – SKI AND SKI

Choose accommodation with cross-country ski trails. This means you put the ski in front of your feet behind the door and whiz down the slope to the lift. Same goes for the possibility of skiing on the way back.

As a beginner, you can try to find accommodation close to the beginner competition. They are exhausted so are the children. You can take your skis or snowboards and return to your hotel in comfort. On a recent trip to Falls Creek, Australia, we made a last-minute decision to climb a mountain. Since we booked late (and late, I mean 6 weeks!), We could only find apartments that were within a bus ride of the lifts for beginners. Managing the skis and poles was hard work and the children were tired.

If you don’t go skiing, at least make sure you have good access to the ski lifts, which can be reached on foot (maybe on a flat level!) Or near the ferry. On our last trip to Niseko, the house we stayed in was just around the corner from the cheap ferry that went to Hirafu and Hanazon. Waiting times were only every 15 to 30 minutes. Very pleasant!

# 03 – THE EARTH IS THE BEST

If possible, you can book an apartment with a fully equipped kitchen. Not only are the accommodations in the ski area more spacious, but you can also use the kitchen to prepare your own meals. One of the things that worries me at the mountain stations is the terrible waiting times in restaurants for lunch, not to mention the skyrocketing prices. I didn’t want to queue for the long cold, hungry and tired children, so it was nice to go back to the apartment and get something to eat!

If you have a budget for skiing holidays, cooking is the best way to save. Bring everything you need with you! We took our home-cooked meals out of the freezer and immediately put them back for dinner. Economical, comfortable in our room. This is especially useful if you have selective eaters or children with food allergens.

# 04 – STAY IN THE MOUNTAINS

Sometimes many families choose to stay out of the mountains and drive every day. Living on a hill can be much cheaper, and while it makes sense on a tight budget, it has some significant drawbacks:

It takes a long time to go up and down the hill. If you get up, find parking spaces and then take the ferry to the elevator, get up early if you want to enjoy the whole day.

If you feel like you’ve had enough for the day, but the rest of the family tend to keep going (well, you’ve paid for it all day so make the most of it) then there’s nothing you can do. It is only appropriate to sit in a bar and be with the rest of the family. If you had a place to stay in the mountains, you could go home in peace.

You have to eat in mountain restaurants. So be prepared for long lines and expensive meals.

In case of bad weather the mountain is sometimes closed. This happened on our last trip and tourists were not allowed to go up for 2 days all day. I was sorry that the families who had already paid for the ski trips and all the ski equipment for hire were stuck at the foot of the hill. And even if your travel insurance covers it, it’s still disappointing.

If you stay away from the hill, you will probably find ski equipment for hire as well. If they don’t have a rep on the mountain, what if something goes wrong eg. The shoes were too small, the ski broke, or the clothing did not fit. You would have this problem for the rest of the day.

# 05-APRES-SKI SC .NE

Apres-ski was one of the things I expected after a full day of skiing. Undoubtedly it was always full of parties, backpackers and all the international skiers. And it was fierce!

But now that I have a family and need a peaceful sleep, I make sure the house is not near the most popular party spot on the hill! suk …. how times have changed!

# 06 – Ski accommodation with ramps

If you have the opportunity, choose an apartment with a parking space to relax before parking. It is so convenient to take everything in the apartment out of the car and not worry about the children. And we always have so much to do! Bags, sleds, food, snacks, pillows, backpacks, cameras, etc.

We are back on the snow this weekend and unfortunately there are no ways to drive Bt Buller properties in some parts of Victoria. We have to park in the parking lot and then take a bus or a taxi. So this time I was able to leave my big wok at home! Laugh out loud!

# 07 – SECTOR OR CABINETS

Another important tip for ski resorts is that I don’t like apartments where my current room doesn’t have its own drying area. The dryer is basically a warm room where you let all your ski equipment (except skis) dry overnight. You want everything to be beautiful and happy when you get off the slopes. The worst feeling is wearing wet clothes!

The normal drying room in the corridor does not work for me as it does not allow me to enter the room and I am always afraid that someone will take my things away from me. And for me it’s a bit “difficult”. So if I don’t have my team, I won’t be happy forever!

# 08 – POOL, SPA AND SAUNA

What could be nicer than a day of skiing in the spa or sauna? And that would surprise you, but you don’t have to wait in a luxury chalet to use it. The kids loved the pool (and it was easy enough! Not a luxury) and the fact that they could end the day in the water. So check if these options are available before ordering.

# 09 – take a look

It is inevitable that the stations will be full, especially on weekends. Each hill has 1 or 2 tents that they enter and are a place for ticketing, shopping and dining. He can get a nice oticaosa and go there anyway. So if you prefer a quieter environment, avoid hotels in these locations.

# 10 – CAR RENTAL

Depending on where you are going, it is possible to pay for car rental during your ski holiday. In Niseko, for example, most villas and chalets do not ski while skiing outside. With 4 mountains to choose from, you may want to maximize your time in the comfort of a car / van rather than waiting for a shuttle or expecting local buses to take you from mountain to mountain. .

It’s also great if you’re traveling with a large group or have a lot of small children. Store everything in the back of the van, pack your snow boots so you don’t have to walk around in ski boots.

Well, you got it. Some practical tips to keep in mind when looking for a ski resort. Do your due diligence to find the best type of hotel for each family member. Have fun! Say hello and hope the kids have fun!
