The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are very popular among many people who like to relax after a hard day at work or a long day at school. They give you the opportunity to recline in luxury while taking in the beauty of your surroundings. Made of fine quality leather, the Ottoman provides a firm cushioning area that is comfortable to rest your back on. Designers cover the reclining area with intricately patterned fabric that is durable and easy to clean.

Historians trace the origins of this particular chair back to early twentieth-century London, England. An artist named Thomas Eames lived in a house on the outskirts of fashionable Kensington. It was in the City of London. One night, he decided to visit his friend Alice in whom he kept a painting. While Alice was admiring a painting by Thomas Eames, she asked him where he had learned to paint so well. According to him, he had simply gone to a furniture company and purchased an Ottoman. The Ottoman that he purchased from the furniture company enabled him to recline while working on his paintings.

Eames himself produced several paintings featuring the Ottoman made of wood. Although he manufactured the chair from genuine wood, he actually constructed it from medium density fiberboard. He designed it using plywood legs that he glued to a heavy duty plywood frame. Each of the plywood legs had a built in V-groove for maximum strength and stability. The entire chair was crafted with white rattan veneer. It was cut to fit the shape of the lounge chair.

Once the chair was complete, Eames attached a single rolled up portal on either side of the Ottoman. The interior of the Ottoman was covered in white vinyl. This matched the white vinyl on the outside of the chair. To complete the interior, they sewed a black cloth across the seat in a zigzag pattern. They then finished off this cloth with black fur trim.

Throughout the years since its inception, there have been several different styles of chairs created to perfectly match the style of this Eames lounge chair and Ottoman. Some of these styles include a straight leather Ottoman with front legs. There is also a wing back Ottoman and a full leather chair. All of these different ottomans and chairs have now become a part of furniture design. Some of these pieces have turned into works of art in their own right.

The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are a true example of American craftsmanship at its best. One individual has crafted this caliber of furniture so well that it is rare to see. Many companies have tried to copy the Eames look. None have come close to matching the perfection in home furnishings.
