The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are very popular among many people who like to relax after a hard day at work or a long day at school. They give you the opportunity to recline in luxury while taking in the beauty of your surroundings. Made of fine quality leather, the Ottoman provides a firm cushioning area that is comfortable to rest your back on. The reclining area is covered with intricately patterned fabric that is durable and easy to clean.

The origins of this particular chair can be traced back to early twentieth century London, England. An artist by the name of Thomas Eames was living in a house on the outskirts of fashionable Kensington, in the City of London. One night, he decided to visit his friend Alice in whom he kept a painting. While Alice was admiring a painting by Thomas Eames, she asked him where he had learned to paint so well. According to him, he had simply gone to a furniture company and purchased an Ottoman. The Ottoman that he purchased from the furniture company enabled him to recline while working on his paintings.

The Ottoman that was made of wood became the subject matter of several paintings that were produced by Eames himself. Although the chair was manufactured from genuine wood, it was actually only constructed from medium density fiberboard. It was designed using plywood legs that were glued to a heavy duty plywood frame. Each of the plywood legs had a built in V-groove for maximum strength and stability. The entire chair was then crafted using a veneer of white rattan that was cut to fit the shape of the entire lounge chair.

Once the chair was complete, Eames attached a single rolled up portal on either side of the Ottoman. The interior of the Ottoman was then covered in white vinyl that matched the white vinyl used on the outside of the chair. To complete the interior, a black cloth was sewn across the seat in a zigzag pattern. This cloth was then finished off with black fur trim.

Throughout the years since its inception, there have been several different styles of chairs created to perfectly match the style of this Eames lounge chair and Ottoman. A few of these styles include: a straight leather Ottoman with straight front legs, a wing back Ottoman and a full leather chair. All of these different ottomans and chairs have now become a part of furniture design. Some of these pieces have turned into works of art in their own right.

The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman are a true example of American craftsmanship at its best. It is rare to see any furniture of this caliber that has been so well crafted by one individual. Many companies have attempted to duplicate the look of Eames, but none have been able to come close to achieving such perfection in home furnishings.
