Guide for men on how to buy the perfect wedding ring

Are you looking for the perfect wedding ring for your wife-to-be? If you are like most guys you will have no clues.

Back in the days it was easy to shop for wedding rings. There were limited options available to choose from. More options are not a bad thing because you can find something that perfectly suits your needs and budget but it surely makes the choice difficult.

Every woman has her own style and she wants a ring that suits her. Here’s a guide for all the men who want to surprise their partners with the perfect ring on their big day.

Set a budget:

First of all, you need to set a budget. It’s not necessary that you spend half of your life savings on the ring. Some people like to spend up to $10,000 on wedding rings and some prefer not to spend that much. There is no hard and fast rule about the perfect price. Just try not to get in debt while trying to surprise your partner. Make sure the price of the ring is not coming in the way of all the other more important wedding expenses. It will help you in short listing your options. Also when you tell the jeweler your budget he will only show you the rings which will be affordable for you.

Know her style:

If you are planning to surprise your misses on the wedding day, then you have to work extra hard for the ring style she would like. You might now have some idea about her preferences after buying her the engagement ring. And if you still don’t know then start taking notes now. Start observing the type of jewelry she usually likes to wear.

Which type of metal does she wear the most? Is it gold, silver or platinum? Does she like wearing big stones or she doesn’t wear rings at all? Some women prefer stones other than diamonds. Maybe she prefers to wear her birthstone. Some ladies like to wear big stones and you will have to buy something big and sparkly for them while others prefer something simple so you will have to go for simpler, delicate, beautiful designs.

Know her size:

Well if you are already engaged then you already know her ring size. But if you are doing this surprise ring thing for the first time then you can secretly take a ring from her jewelry box, that you have seen her wearing and fit perfectly. You would have to be sneaky and put the ring back before she knows about it.

Chose the gemstone and band:

Now is the time where you put all your research together and choose a gemstone for the perfect wedding ring. Some women prefer to wear diamonds but it’s not that simple. Maybe your fiancé prefers diamonds in a certain shape. We have a list of few possible shapes you can get your diamond in:

•    Round cut

•    Princess cut

•    Pear cut

•    Emerald cut

•    Oval cut

•    Cushion cut

•    Marquise

Now is the time to choose the band. Now that you know what metal your wife-to-be prefers so buy accordingly. You can also customize your ring setting by mixing two metals in the band. Engraving your names on the ring or you can create your own design and get it made by the jeweler. Your wife would love if you put some extra effort in getting her the right wedding ring.

Know the 4 Cs

If you are going with a diamond wedding ring then you should know about the 4 Cs. Diamonds are classified according to the 4 Cs that are: Cut, Carat, Clarity, and Color.

Cut:

Cut doesn’t refer to the shape of the diamond, but the beauty and sparkle of the stone. A perfectly cut diamond reflects light from one facet to another and projects light through the stone that gives a diamond its sparkle. A poorly cut diamond results in a lackluster appearance.

Carat:

Carat refers to the weight of the diamond. While the cut of a diamond is determined by the cutter, nature determines the carat, clarity and color of a diamond.

Clarity:

Clarity refers to how fewer imperfections a diamond has. These imperfections are known as inclusions. Inclusions are other minerals or tiny black or white flecks that occur naturally as diamonds are naturally formed.

Color:

Diamonds come in various colors. The color scale of diamond ranges from D to Z. D refers to no color and is the most expensive, whereas Z is visibly yellowish.

Bonus Tip: Get your wedding ring insured

Last but not the least; don’t forget to insure your ring. Remember that a diamond ring is a huge investment and it’s always a good idea to get it insured. In case it gets lost, stolen or get damaged, the insurance will help cover the damage.
